Summary

This document contains information about binding the same Content Switching policy to two Content Switching virtual servers (VServers) on a NetScaler appliance.

Background

You might need to bind the same Content Switching policy to two Content Switching VServers in the following scenarios:

  • You have configured two Content Switching VServers with the same IP address and domain name but different ports, such as HTTP and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) ports.
  • You have configured two Content Switching VServers with the same domain name but different IP addresses to serve the internal and external users.

If you attempt to bind a URL-based policy, created by using the –url and –domain options, to two Content Switching VServers, then the NetScaler appliance displays the following error:

ERROR: Domain is already hosted by another server

You can avoid this issue by creating a rule-based policy by using the –rule option to configure the setup instead of the URL-based policy.

Binding the Same Content Switching Policy to two Content Switching VServers

To bind two Content Switching policies with the same domain name to two Content Switching VServers, complete the following procedure:

  1. Run the following command to create a Content Switching policy for the required domain:
    add cs policy test-rule -rule "REQ.HTTP.HEADER Host == example.com && REQ.HTTP.URL CONTAINS /training"
Notice that the –domain parameter is not used in this command. This parameter has significance only if you create a URL-based policy.
  1. Run the following commands to create two Content Switching VServers that have the same IP address but different ports, such as ports 80 and 443:
    add cs vserver cs1 HTTP 10.12.1.90 80
    add cs vserver cs2 HTTP 10.12.1.90 443
  1. Run the following commands to bind the same policy to both VServers:
    >bind cs vserver cs1 lb-vip -policyName test-rule
    Done

    > bind cs vserver cs2 lb-vip -policyName test-rule
    Done

Note: You can also use the preceding procedure to bind two Content Switching policies with the same domain name to two Content Switching VServers.
