Virtual IP Loopback Setting Not Working with Java Applications.

Symptoms or Error

After configuring Virtual IP Loopback policy, customers might find that the Java application(s) still use the same loopback address for all sessions, rather than choosing a different loopback address. ??Additionally, CDF Tracing might show that the Virtual IP Hook has selected a unique loopback address correctly.

Solution

Forcing the Java process to prefer IPv4 should resolve this issue. ??The easiest method to do this is to put the following into an environment variable:

-DJava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

The environment variable used will depend on which Java process is being used:

javaws.exe: JAVAWS_VM_ARGS
java.exe: _JAVA_OPTIONS
javaw.exe: _JPI_VM_OPTIONS

Problem Cause

Issue appears to be Java specific, but exactly root cause is unknown.
